Holy Moly!!! I can't believe we have been so bad at keeping up with the blog. I was just checking the page out and noticed that we haven't posted anything in over a year. To the uninformed, that would imply nothing has happened worthy of posting. Well, that is far from the truth. The fact is, an entire school year has come and gone. Abby completed the first grade and I am on my way to the fourth grade!!! Can you believe that, the FOURTH GRADE!!!! My daddy was telling me that he remembers his fourth grade teacher.. Mrs. Eagan. I think he was also telling me that was the year he first wore glasses. Kinda trivial, but interesting to me.
This year went waaaaaaayyyyy too fast. Between the countless weekends at the beach, Abby's dancing and ice skating, my after school programs, mommy's school (did I tell you she got another master's degree?!!!) and daddy deploying a couple times, we had an adventurous year. So adventurous that we have to leave Hawaii for a new paradise. Okay, so maybe not paradise, but there is lots to see. We will be immersed in history and culture. Okay, I am trying to play excited about our move to Washington, DC, but I can't hide that I am going to miss this place more than anything. Slippers everywhere, bathing suits all the time, never colder than 75 and never much hotter. Even when it rains, we go to the beach. WOW!! How did we get so lucky to be able to spend two years in this wonderful place?
I think my mommy is most sad as she is really quite the surfer girl. She showed up to the island with no idea how to surf and is now leaving with four or five surfboards and a stoke that is beyond measure. I actually just overheard her talking to daddy about going surfing in North Carolina a couple weeks after we move. That woman has it bad!!!
Can't say my dad isn't consumed with his hobby either. Ever since February, he has been golfing like it is nobody's business. He NEVER golfed before that and now... well, he is pretty predictable in where he wants to go every day. Unfortunately, he drags us with him and we pretend he is doing good at the driving range. (He is really not doing that good).
Things are coming to a quick end here and I am trying not to be sad. The cars are gone, our furniture is gone and my friends will be starting school in a couple weeks without me. I am not too worried about making friends in Washington, but I will really miss the ones I made here. I know that Abby is also kinda sad about not seeing her friends again. We are at least thankful that mommy worked hard to get us play dates and sleepovers with our friends over the summer. She even made sure that we had our birthday party TWO MONTHS EARLY so that our good friends could come. We had a blast and are very thankful for her taking care of us that way.
Big milestones in the last year... well, let's see... Abby and I can tear it up on a bike now. Yeah, we may have waited a little longer than the average kid to get good at that, but it was mostly because we lived places that didn't make for easy bike riding. We moved onto the base earlier this year and ever since then, we have been playing outside like the best of them. We even convinced dad to let us ride our bikes to camp one morning.
Abby has lost several of her teeth and is patiently waiting form some to grow back in. She is adorable though and really raked in the cash over the last several months. I think the tooth fairy forgot how little she gave me for missing teeth when she decided to make Abby a wealthy girl. Oh well.
Abby did her first dance recital and man was she good!!! We were all very proud of her.
I wrote a book in school and have a binder of poems that I am very proud of. The school decided to put me in a special math and reading class because I was apparently doing really good in the regular class. Mom and dad say my teachers said some really good things about me, but I imagine they were just trying to make me feel good.
During the last year we visited three of the islands... Hawaii, Kauai and Maui. All of them are amazing. Whether it was the volcanos on Hawaii or the amazing resort in Maui or the proximity to Bethany Hamilton on Kauai, we loved every one of them. Speaking of Bethany Hamilton... Abby and I got to meet her (and Alana Blanchard)!!! Was absolutely one of the coolest days (and a surprise from mommy!!!).
Daddy had to deploy a couple times and we missed him so much when he was gone. However, one of the cool things about him deploying is that he always brought us cool stuff from the places he went. I would tell you where he went, but I would have to kill you (and I really like you).
Okay, that is enough for now.
